Subject list I: Branches of study for the degree of BE

As noted in the introduction to the ´Outline of undergraduate studies', the faculty has replaced the degree programs previously offered at Caulfield, Clayton and Gippsland with a single Bachelor of Engineering degree to be offered in a variety of branches across three campuses. The first level of the new degree, common to all streams of engineering, commenced in 1998. The second level of the new degree was introduced in 1999 and third level in 2000. All students admitted to candidature for a Bachelor of Engineering in 2001 will automatically be transferred to branches of the new degree at the end of the first year.

Level 3

At level 3, seven common core subjects are taken. Students must choose one of two alternative programs of major study. The first program comprises significant further study in the field identified in level 2 as the discipline major, supported by study in a minor field. The second program involves the development of a double major through the selection of a second major field: the two majors are then studied equally. Information engineering must be one of the fields selected, as either a discipline major, a minor or one of the double majors. Students are advised on their choice of program and on the selection of subjects, from those listed below, appropriate to the program chosen.
