Synopsis: Introduction of machine design; design philosophy; analysis of stresses and strains; material properties and selection; design for strength and for rigidity; tolerance design; design of shafts; design of fastening components and joints; design of springs; selection of rolling element bearings; introduction of CAD/CAM.

Assessment: Design project and assignments: 50% + Examination: 50%
