R D Kennedy 4 points + 22 lectures, 22 tutorial and project hours + Second semester + Caulfield Synopsis: Introduction to engineering management. Environments: on-site, discrete manufacturing, flow process environments. Engineering management techniques: activities networks, decision trees, simulation. Project management: project selection (life cycle cost-benefit analysis), team fomation, membership selection and skills. Identification of constraints and project specification. Decision process: conceptual solutions. Project planning: time management, critical path analysis, Gantt charts, concurrent engineering concepts. Project financing: basic budgeting and accounting practices. Contingency planning: introduction to risk management. Project documentation: project control and reporting. Assessment: Examination (2 hours): 70% + Assignment: 30% |
