CHE4151Wastewater treatment processes(ENG)
3 points + 2 lectures per week/8 tutorials + Clayton + Prerequisites: ENE3605 or CHE4112 Synopsis: Sources and quantities of wastewater, collection, minimisation possibilities. Chemical and biological characteristics, wastewater microbiology. Requirements for treatment processes, effluent standards, scale of operation. Pretreatment. Primary treatment: coagulation, precipitation, filtration. Secondary treatment: aeration, microbiology, analysis and design of the activated sludge process, aerated lagoons, trickling filters, combined aerobic processes. Sedimentation. Process control and optimisation. Anaerobic processes, sludge handling and disposal. Tertiary treatment, nutrient removal processes, polishing. Cost of treatment options. Small scale treatment facilities. Effluent disposal. Assessment: Examination: 60% + Assignments: 40% |
