Synopsis: Topics covered include evaluation of system performance. Measurement systems and devices. Motion, force, pressure, fluid flow and temperature sensors. Motion transducers, LVDT, strain gauges, thermocouples, ultrasonic and radiation sensors. Data acquisition systems. Data capture, storage and representation. Interface devices. Introduction to control systems. Process dynamics and control. Transducers and actuators. Physical and mathematical modelling of engineering systems. Block diagrams and transfer functions. Transient and steady-state behaviour of control systems. Stablity of control systems. Control strategies.

Assessment: Examination (2 hours): 70% + Assignments: 30%
