Synopsis: Introduction to software engineering, methodology and models of software development, cost estimation, project management, software specifications, formal specification languages, Object-orientated project specification, application testing, version control, programming language choice, software documentation, real-time systems, synchronous and asynchronous systems, multi-processing systems, concurrency, accessing shared resources, critical sections, mutual exclusions, semaphores, OSI network layers, protocols, Ethernet and ATM protocols, Internet protocols, UDP,TCP and proprietary protocols.

Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 70% + Laboratory and assignment work: 30%
