D G Holmes 4 points + 26 lectures + 24 hours of laboratory and problem classes + First semester + Clayton + Prerequisite: ECE2501 Synopsis: Review of three-phase circuits, three phase thyristor rectifiers, DC motor variable speed drive systems, theory and performance of three-phase induction motors, testing of induction motors, operation with variable frequency supplies, single phase induction motors, structure and operation of DC/DC convertors, switched mode power supplies, protection of electrical plant and systems, quality of electrical supply, theory of synchronous machines, real and reactive power flow through synchronous machines, connection to an infinite bus, variable speed control, brushless DC machines. Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 70% + Laboratory and assignment work: 30% |
