The table which follows lists those subjects offered by distance education, except for the following courses:
Note carefully the contents of each of the columns in the table.
The subject number assigned to the listed subject, comprising three (3) alpha and four (4) numeric characters.
The specific title of the listed subject.
The credit points value of the listed subject.
The
number indicates when the listed subject is offered.
1 = taught in first semester
2 = taught in second semester
4 = taught over the whole academic year
* = next offered by distance education in 2000
The study area of the listed subject.
This
column lists the subjects which must be completed before (p) or concurrently
with (c) the listed subject, and special notes regarding attendance
requirements, etc.
(a) These subjects with a credit value of three points are taught over the
full semester period but involve only half the average workload of a subject
with a credit value of six points.
(b) A compulsory laboratory or workshop program for this subject will be
provided.
(c) Corequisite: must be completed concurrently with the listed
subject.
(d) This subject involves assignments which require regular access to a
technical library. Students who can arrange access to other technical libraries
to supplement Monash University Gippsland campus library services would find it
of value.
(e) Students enrolling in these physical science, chemistry or biological
science subjects must attend the prescribed on-campus laboratory sessions.
Alternative arrangements might be possible only for students who can satisfy
the lecturers that they have both ability and opportunity to comply fully with
the laboratory work requirement using other facilities and laboratory staff.
(f) Attendance at weekend schools and vacation schools is highly
recommended.
(g) Attendance at three weekend and/or vacation schools during the
progress of the course is strongly recommended.
(h) Students may need access to an audio-cassette player. Some science
subjects may also use 35 mm slides.
(i) Attendance at four weekend and/or vacation schools during the progress
of the course is strongly recommended.
(j) Attendance at the graduate diploma winter symposium is compulsory.
(k)Attendance at vacation school compulsory.
(l) This subject involves assignments which require access to a computer.
Access to the Monash University Gippsland campus computer is available for
distance education students at weekend and extended weekend schools, as well as
during normal working hours during the week. Access to the Gippsland computer
is available at some other Victorian tertiary institutions.
(m) Laboratory work in these subjects is performed entirely off-campus,
using a practical kit loaned to students by the School of Applied Science. A
refundable deposit is payable before the kit is supplied.
(n) Attendance is required at the vacation school and at least three
weekend schools for the semester. Students living more than 100 kilometres from
the campus may be able to make alternative arrangements with the lecturers.
(o) Attendance at 80 per cent of scheduled classes at weekend and vacation
schools is required.
(p) Prerequisite: must be completed before the listed subject.
(q) Students are advised to attempt only one laboratory-based subject in
each semester unless specifically directed otherwise by a course adviser.
(r) These psychology subjects require compulsory attendance at weekend
schools. This will require one full day on-campus attendance at first and
second level, and two full days at third level.
(s) Students who have satisfactorily completed a Year 12 mathematics
subject may not normally enrol in this subject. All intending students should,
if possible, consult with a member of the mathematics staff before enrolling in
this subject.
(t) Students may enrol in these subjects only after course counselling by
an applied science course leader.
(u) Students will be required to attend all weekend and vacation
schools.
(v) Assessment in these subjects may include a series of periodic tests.
These will be held at the Gippsland campus during weekend and vacation schools.
Alternative arrangements may be made for students unable to attend any or all
of these occasions.
