Cell biology

This subject considers the biology of the cell. It commences with a study of the molecules which make up the cell: water, carbohydrates, proteins, lipids and nucleic acids. This then forms the basis for the consideration of cell structure and function. Topics include cellular organisation, movement of substances into and out of cells, cell division and cellular energetics. The basic principles of cellular metabolism are introduced. The subject concludes with a study of genetics, including: meiosis, Mendelian genetics, sex linkage and gene interactions.
