Computers in education

This subject examines the use of microcomputers in educational settings. Students are introduced to a range of software packages including (a) communications software (Internet, World Wide Web, audiographics); (b) relational databases; and (c) multimedia. Students are expected to have access to at least one of these software packages which will be used in assessed assignments. Other topics examine (a) the selection, classification and evaluation of software; (b) policy documents about the use of learning technologies in educational settings; and(c) issues concerned with the use of computers in education. It is expected that students are familiar with basic applications (wordprocessing, database, spreadsheet and communications software) before commencing this subject.
