Introduction to trading and trading systems. Role of computers to automate trading. Information systems applications in selected industries including the service sector, eg insurance, banking, public sector. Discussion and evaluation of EC technologies and their impact on business operations ñ bar coding, electronic data interchange (EDI), point-of-sale systems (POS), electronic funds transfer (EFT), data encryption, communication protocols, Wide Area Networks, the role of the internet; and their impact on business operations. Applications to the operation of databases, processing of transactions, and generation of management reports in areas such as sales, purchasing, distribution, inventory management and general management of service activities.
