Subject list III: Branches of study for the double degree of BE and BCom


Students may gain admission to the double degree from first year, in which case their course of study in level one is identical to first year engineering (see below). Alternatively, they may apply to transfer following satisfactory completion of first-year Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Commerce.

Part I - Bachelor of Commerce

Listed below are the subjects available for credit towards the BCom together with details of degree structure. From this list sixteen subjects (each worth six credit points) totalling ninety-six credit points must be completed. Candidates should consult the Faculty of Business and Economics handbook for information about prerequisites, corequisites and other subject details.

One discipline (economics, econometrics, accounting and finance, management studies) must be selected as an area of specialisation which will be carried through to third year. Three second-year subjects (eighteen credit points) must be taken in the area of specialisation. Two second-year subjects (twelve credit points) must be taken from one of the four disciplines other than the area of specialisation. Second year subjects available are:

Part II - Bachelor of Engineering

Set out below are the subjects required in each engineering stream for the BE degree together with suggested ways of combining these with commerce subjects. For some candidates timetable constraints may necessitate some adjustment of the suggested combinations. In organising a program for each year candidates should aim not to exceed fifty-six credit points.
