Fluid mechanics

Objectives The student is expected to acquire a knowledge and understanding of the basic fundamentals of fluid mechanics and how to apply these to the solution of simple fluid flow problems.

Synopsis Fluid properties, fluid statics, kinematics, Euler and Bernoulli equations, flow measurement, control volumes, continuity, momentum and energy equations, dimensional analysis, modelling, boundary layer, lift and drag, Moody chart, pipe flow, single and branched pipe systems.

Assessment Examinations (2 hours): 80%
* Laboratory: 12%
* Tutorial: 8%
