ENG4611

Schools technology studies project

Departmental level-four coordinators and C Penna, Faculty of Education

3- 6 points
* First/second semester
* Clayton
* Prerequisites: Level-3 core subjects

Objectives The student is expected to gain valuable experience in innovative planning, communication skills and report writing while assisting schools in offering and promoting appealing technology subjects.

Synopsis This subject may be taken as a level-four engineering elective in any department at a points value appropriate to the department. It may be taken as a free elective, not a stream elective, in the department of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering. The subject, Technology Studies, is a recent innovation in the curriculum of both primary and secondary schools. Engineering students can make a significant contribution to the implementation of the subject, especially in devising and supervising problem-solving type projects appropriate to engineering and technology. Working with a suitably matched school class and teacher, the student will participate as a volunteer helper on a negotiated and regular basis; respond constructively to the needs of both teacher and pupils, who are regarded as clients; re-examine relevant aspects of professional knowledge that are within the parameters of the client's needs; and practise spoken, written and graphic communication skills.

Assessment Reports, seminar presentation and client feedback: 100%
