5 points
* 26 lectures and 26 laboratory hours and tutorials
* Second semester
* Clayton
* Prerequisites: MTE1510 or ENG1501

Objectives The student should achieve a basic understanding of the relationship between polymer structure and morphology and properties of polymers.

Synopsis Macromolecular structure: chemistry of polymerisation, molecular weight distributions, statistical description of chains, crystal structure of polymers. Polymer phase behaviour: solubility, polymer blends, miscibility vs. immiscibility, specific interactions in polymer blends, simple phase diagrams, UCST, LCST spinodals. Glass transition behaviour. Crystallisation in polymers.
