Electrical energy I

Objectives The student is expected to acquire basic knowledge of the nature and structure of the electricity supply system, the delivery and utilisation of electrical energy and the behaviour of electrical power equipment including transformers, induction motors and simple power electronic circuits. The student should develop skills for the analysis of simple electric power networks and equipment.

Synopsis Electrical power networks including the Victorian power system; single-phase and three-phase networks; three-phase complex power; the per-unit system; power transformers; three-phase and single-phase induction motors; power electronic circuits including rectifiers; programmable logic controllers.

Assessment Examination (2 hours): 80%
* Laboratory work: 20%
