Course description

The course is designed to provide maximum flexibility and to allow depth and breadth in the study of the major business and commerce discipline areas. Its structure provides the capacity to tailor applications and focus in different contexts and different environments while ensuring knowledge of the theory, principles and core elements in the relevant discipline areas.

Areas of study

Students must complete a major in one of the following disciplines taught by the faculty: accounting, e-business, economics, human resource management, management, marketing, marketing communication, public relations or tourism. All units taken as part of the major are limited to units taught by departments of the faculty on the campus delivering this program.

Other studies may be drawn from any of the disciplines taught on the Berwick campus by the Faculty of Business and Economics. These studies can form a sub-major in one of the following areas: professional accounting, management, tourism, public relations, marketing and marketing communication. They can also, in some cases, form a second major in a business discipline. Up to six open electives may also be taken from other campuses or other Monash faculties.

Course requirements

The degree requirements are:

(a) Completion of six compulsory common core units (36 points):

(b) Completion of a major of at least eight units (48 points) in a discipline from the faculty with at least two units (12 points) at each of second and third-year levels.

(c) A total of 24 units (144 points) over a maximum of 10 years of study.

(d) A maximum of 10 first-year-level units (60 points).

(e) A minimum of six units (36 points) at third-year level, of which at least four (24 points) must be from those offered by the faculty on the campus delivering this program.

(f) An option to include a maximum of six units (36 points) in disciplines taught by other faculties or from units offered on campuses other than the campus delivering this program.

(g) At least four non-compulsory units (24 points) must be outside the main field of study.
