The Bachelor of Business and Commerce provides an international degree in business and commerce. The course is designed to provide maximum flexibility and to allow depth and breadth in the study of the major business and commerce discipline areas. Its structure provides the capacity to tailor applications and focus on different contexts and different environments while ensuring knowledge of the theory, principles and core elements in the relevant discipline areas. Majors, consisting of a sequence of eight subjects available at the Gippsland campus are accounting, business, economics, electronic commerce, management, and marketing. Students have the option of choosing a second major or combining their major with one or more professional specialisations, consisting of a sequence of four subjects.
(a)
Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)
Satisfactory completion of the VCE with a study score of at least 25 in English
units 3 and 4, plus any two units from General Mathematics and Mathematical
Methods at units 1 and 2 level.
(b) Comparable qualifications
Applicants may also satisfy entrance requirements on the basis of
qualifications deemed to be the equivalent of the above VCE. TAFE
qualifications (e.g. the first year of a TAFE advanced diploma or a TAFE
qualification that satisfies the first year of a TAFE advanced diploma) or
comparable Year 12 qualifications, including International Baccalaureate or
approved tertiary-level study completed in Victoria, other states of Australia
or overseas, may satisfy entry requirements.
(c) Special admission
Students who have not successfully completed VCE or equivalent may satisfy
entry requirements by completing at least two Monash non-award single subjects
or open learning (OLA) subjects. Further information is contained in the

Access to an IBM-compatible computer is essential for the use of word-processing and other software packages. It is also recommended that distance education students have access to a modem to facilitate EMAIL communication with teaching staff.
Weekend schools are run three times each semester for many of the business subjects. Attendance is optional for those students wishing to attend.
The Bachelor of Business and Commerce is awarded on completion of 24 semester
subjects taken over six years part-time study (by distance education based on
the following requirements:
(a) Completion of six compulsory subjects:

major consisting of eight subjects.
(c) Completion of up to six electives that may be taken from any discipline
within the faculty or from any other faculty.
Note that of the above, no more than ten first year level subjects may be
taken; at least six third year level subjects must be taken of which at least
four must be taken from subjects offered by the Faculty on the Gippsland
campus; at least four of the electives must be taken outside the main field of
study.

Completion of the above course plan will depend on the discipline areas chosen

Assessment is by a combination of assignments and final examination for each subject. Generally a pass is required in the final examination to pass the subject.
Credits/exemptions may be considered for previous tertiary level study or post secondary study (including TAFE) and open learning in Australia and overseas. Each application is assessed on a case by case basis. It is essential that subjects submitted for credit/exemption fit the philosophy and principles of this degree course of study. Subjects studied more than ten years ago will not be considered for credit/exemption.
