Strategic management

6 points + Two 1-hour lectures and one 1-hour tutorial per week + Distance, approximately 12 hours per week + Gippsland, Distance, second semester + Berwick, Peninsula, Malaysia, first semester + Prerequisite: MGW1010 or equivalent + Prohibition: MGB3344 or MGG3344

Synopsis: Business environments including markets, critical success factors, and strategies employed to gain a competitive advantage; the nature of strategic management; the analysis and interpretation of business environments; the nature of competition, relative positon of firms, individual strategies and their relationship to critical success factors; strengths and weaknesses related to production, logistics, finance, R and D, marketing, administration etc.; the role of structure, controls, rewards, culture and leadership in implementation.

Assessment: On campus: Assignment 1 (2000 words): 20% + Assignment 2 (2000 words): 20% + Tutorial participation: 10% + Examination (3 hours): 50% + Distance: Assignment 1 (2500 words): 25% + Assignment 2 (2500 words): 25% + Examination (3 hours): 50%
