Notes
This Master of Teaching specialisation qualifies graduates to teach children from 12 to 18 years of age in secondary schools in specific curriculum areas. Students develop an understanding of learning at the heart of teaching and acquire a perspective of teaching as the power to change. They develop their understanding of teaching and learning approaches for secondary school as these address adolescents' cognitive, social and emotional development. Students widen their appreciation of teaching approaches to engage adolescents and learn to effectively assess and report on their learning. Specialist study provides the knowledge required to become a teacher in two subject areas such as such as English, mathematics, the sciences, history, social education, languages, the arts, business, health and physical education, or applied/vocational learning. Students learn how inclusive practices meet a diversity of student needs and build a repertoire of strategies to manage classroom settings. Professional understanding and skills are extended through 60 days of professional experience, and students learn to generate and reflect on evidence to evaluate their practice and build professional judgement.
