Bachelor of Sport and Outdoor Recreation

The Bachelor of Sport and Outdoor Recreation offers an interdisciplinary program which focuses specifically on the employment and training needs of those employed in the expanding sport and outdoor recreation industries. The course offers sequences of units for students in areas such as business/management, tourism, environmental science and sports science. Opportunities also exist for further study.

Admission requirements

Applicants must have satisfactorily completed the VCE or its equivalent, including two units of mathematics (any), and have achieved a study score of at least 25 in units 3 and 4 English (any).

Course structure

To receive the award of Bachelor of Sport and Outdoor Recreation, a candidate must successfully complete units totalling 144 points.

Sport and outdoor recreation units (48 credit points)

• EDF1302 Perspectives on teaching
• EDF1601 Socio-cultural elements of sport and the individual
• EDF1602 Biophysical foundations of human movement A
• EDF1603 Biophysical foundations of human movement B
• EDF1604 Introduction to outdoor recreation education
• EDF1605 Lifespan physical activity and wellness
• ENV1711 Environmental science 1 - the dynamic environment

Second year

Sport and outdoor recreation units (36 credit points)

• BIO2742 Exercise physiology and fitness assessment
• EDF2601 Adventure education
• EDF2602 Coaching and instruction
• EDF2603 Swimming and water safety
• EDF2604 Leadership and programming
• ENV2726 Conservation of bio-resources

Minor studies (12 credit points)

• Two approved six-credit-point discipline units chosen from those offered across the campus.

Third year

Sport and outdoor recreation units (36 credit points)

• EDF3603 Wilderness expedition or EDF3604 Camp planning and practice
• EDF3605 Risk management and emergency response
• EDF3607 Social issues in sport and outdoor recreation
• EDF3610 Research project in sport and outdoor recreation
• plus two approved BSOR electives*

Minor studies (12 credit points)

• Two approved six-credit-point discipline units chosen from those offered across the campus.

* BSOR electives: EDF3601 (Learning technologies in sport and outdoor recreation), EDF3603 (Wilderness expedition), EDF3604 (Camp planning and practices), EDF3608 (Sport education), EDF3609 (Experiencing the Australian landscape), EDF3610 (Research/project in sport and outdoor recreation), EDF3611 (Advanced outdoor recreation practice), EDF4161 (Sports injury Prevention), BIO3731 (Nutrition, fitness and conditioning).
