Camp Planning and Practices (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: Upon successful completion of this unit, students will have developed knowledge and understanding of the historical basis of residential camping; the theoretical basis of residential camp programmes and a personal philosophy towards residential camping; experience in programming for residential camps, including the needs of specific populations; an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the different people associated with the operation of a camp; practical learning experiences related to leading, organising, and administering a residential base camp; a personal resource file relevant to all aspects of camping; an awareness of legal responsibility as it relates to camp leaders, organisation and administration.

Assessment: Two assignments (2000 words each): 30% each + Journal (3000 words): 40% + Hurdle requirement: camp practicum

Contact Hours: 3 hours per week

Prerequisites: EDF1604 or equivalent
