The course provides attractive sequences of studies for students in a number of disciplinary areas including education, business/management, tourism, environmental science and sports science. Course structureTo receive the awards of Bachelor of Sport and Outdoor Recreation and Bachelor of Education, a student must successfully complete units totalling 192 points consisting of: (a) Studies in sport and outdoor recreation (96 points), including studies in academic disciplines appropriate for the sport and recreation industry and/or teaching at the primary level and the adult and vocational education sector. (b) Studies in education (96 points), a series of units relating to the theory and practice of education, teaching and curriculum. Fieldwork placements are also included. Off-campus fieldwork placement in school settings (mainly in Victoria but also in wider Australia, North America and the South Pacific) is an integral part of the course for every student. Other off-campus fieldwork activities provide students, as individuals or in small groups, with opportunities to collect data, test theories, and observe phenomena relevant to all areas of education. This outline shows the sequence of studies for students wishing to qualify as a primary health and physical or outdoor education teacher. This course outline is indicative of the program students will follow, but is subject to change. FieldworkStudents must successfully complete teaching practice which consists of 80 days of supervised school experience. Students who are employed in schools must complete a minimum of 40 days of supervised fieldwork in a setting other than the school in which they are employed. Professional recognitionOn completion of the double degrees, graduates will be qualified for employment as primary school teachers (including health and physical education if the approved unit sequence is followed) or in the sport and outdoor recreation field.
