Singapore Second semester 2006 (OCL)
Synopsis: Theory of leadership and programming in relation to sport and outdoor recreation. Concepts, principles, styles, leadership skills and programming techniques are considered in a broad range of settings. Ten days of fieldwork allows students to gain experience in applying these skills.
Objectives: Upon successful completion of this unit, students will have developed knowledge and understanding of the concepts of leadership and programming; the theories of leadership and programming; the practice of leadership and programming. Students should be able to apply these theoretical concepts and demonstrate skills by having developed their own philosophy of leadership and programming; displaying the ability to lead a range of different activities utilising various styles as appropriate in selected outdoor pursuits; being able to develop personalised and group programs to suit a range of settings.
Assessment: Class test (1000 word equivalent): 25% + Practical Leadership Skills Assessment (2000 word equivalent - Students must achieve a pass grade in this assessment task): 50% + Fieldwork journal (1000 words): 25%. Completion of the ten days fieldwork component is compulsory.
