Offered:
Gippsland First semester 2006 (Day)
Synopsis: The unit explores a range of pedagogical practices associated with the provision of sport and movement education and considers the social, cultural and environmental factors that impact upon the experience. Students will explore principles that underpin alternative pedagogies (such as games sense, fundamental motor skills, SEPEP, experiential learning) and relate these to the socio-cultural needs of participants. In addition, issues that impact upon long term involvement in physical activity will be explored. In order to ground theory in practice students will apply concepts in practical movement settings that may include dance, games, lifestyle exercise and school based programs.
Objectives: 1. Discuss skills and basic movement techniques associated with dance/gymnastics or alternate sport and movement experiences; 2. Develop a basic level of competency in performing dance/gymnastics/games or equivalent skills within appropriate contexts; 3. Explain a variety of contemporary pedagogical practices (including but not limited to SEPEP, Play Practice, Game Sense, etc) and the associated theories of such practices and how it relates to sport and outdoor recreation; 4. Plan and implement a dance/gymnastics/alternate movement experience unit of work grounded in a relevant theoretical framework; 5. Apply a critical reflective practice that considers the interplay between coach, player, content and social context.
