Bachelor of Business and Commerce/Bachelor of Network Computing*


General information

This double-degree course is designed to provide students with both the technical and organisational competencies to build and implement distributed application systems within a business environment. This requires that students understand the applications of network computing in business and the organisational issues involved in establishing and managing the various types of businesses.

Admission requirements

(a) Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)

Satisfactory completion of the VCE with a study score of at least 25 in English units 3 and 4, plus any two units from General Mathematics and Mathematical Methods at units 1 and 2 level.

(b) Comparable qualifications

Applicants may also satisfy entrance requirements on the basis of qualifications deemed to be the equivalent of the above VCE. TAFE qualifications (eg the first year of a TAFE advanced diploma or a TAFE qualification that satisfies the first year of a TAFE advanced diploma) or comparable Year 12 qualifications, including International Baccalaureate or approved tertiary-level study completed in Victoria, other states of Australia or overseas, may satisfy entry requirements.

(c) Special admission

Students who have not successfully completed VCE or equivalent may satisfy entry requirements by completing at least two Monash non-award single subjects or open learning (OLA) subjects. Credit for work done elsewhere

Credit transfer may be considered for previous tertiary-level study or post-secondary study (including TAFE) in Australia and overseas. Each application is assessed on a case-by-case basis. It is essential that subjects submitted for credit transfer fit the philosophy and principles of this degree course of study. Subjects studied more than 10 years ago are regarded as beyond a reasonable time limit and will not be considered for credit/exemption.

Mode of offering

Day classes are offered at Peninsula campus. Some elective subjects may be offered from other campuses through tele-teaching, and some subjects may be offered through distance education via the world wide web.

Duration

Full-time students would normally complete the course in 4.25 years.

Students must choose a major (a sequence of eight subjects) in one of accounting, international trade, or management.

Accounting major

Note that to meet the requirements of the professional accounting bodies, students must also take the following subjects:

International business major

Note that students taking the international trade major will be encouraged to take one of the following specialisations: languages, international commerce, Asian business.

Management major

Note that students taking the management major will be encouraged to take one of the following specialisations: international management, international business, wine technology and marketing.
