Course description

This course has been designed to provide for career market professionals with a comprehensive, intellectually demanding and up-to-date understanding of business and marketing concepts. The course is appropriate for marketers seeking new ways to develop, control and implement marketing activities in all types of environments. It is appropriate for those occupying senior marketing positions in consumer, business, government, community, service and non-profit organisations. The course provides for specialisations in selected disciplines for career development and profession in differentiated fields of study.

Credit for prior studies

Candidates may be eligible for credit for a maximum of six units considered to be equivalent to particular requirements in the course of study. Credit is restricted to study completed in the last five years.

Course structure

The Master of Marketing (for career marketing professionals) provides students with a variety of specialisations to choose from, each with a different course structure.

Marketing

(a) Module 1 – Students must complete four core units (24 points):

  • MKF9110 Theory and process of buyer behaviour
  • MKF9120 Marketing research
  • MKX9160 Foundations of marketing
  • MKX9261 Integrated marketing communication

(b) Module 2 – Students must complete four units (24 points) as follows:

(i) two core units (12 points):

  • MKX5123 Marketing innovation and planning
  • MKX5741 Marketing data analysis

plus two graduate-level-units (12 points) offered by the Department of Marketing.

(c) Module 3 – Students must complete four units (24 points) as follows:

(i) three core units (18 points):

  • MKF5200 Assessing marketing performance
  • MKX5251 Case studies in strategy
  • MKX5751 Delivering customer value

plus one unit (6 points) from 5000-level units offered by the Department of Marketing.

Note that two units (12 points) may be drawn from any Monash postgraduate course*

Interactive Marketing

(a) Module 1 – Students must complete four core units (24 points)

  • MKF9110 Theory and process of buyer behaviour
  • MKX9160 Foundations of marketing
  • MKX9261 Integrated marketing communication

(b) Module 2 – Students must complete four units (24) points as follows:

(i) two core units (12 points)

  • MKF5703 Direct marketing creative and media
  • MKF9420 Introduction to E-business

plus two graduate level units (12 points) offered by the Department of Marketing

(c) Module 3 – Students must complete four units (24 points) as follows:

(i) two core units (12 points):

plus two graduate level units (12 points) offered by the Department of Marketing

Retailing

(a) Module 1 – Students must complete four core units (24 points)

(b) Module 2 – Students must complete four units (24) points as follows:

(i) two core units (12 points)

  • MKF9830 International retailing
  • two graduate level units (12 points) offered by the Department of Marketing

(c) Module 3 – Students must complete three units (24 points) as follows:

(i) one core unit (12 points):

plus two graduate level units (12 points) offered by the Department of Marketing, or

(ii) four graduate level units (24 points) offered by the Department of Marketing

Supply Chain Logistics

(a) Module 1 – Students must complete four core units (24 points)

  • MKP9620 Fulfilment and order management
  • MKP9640 Managing supply chain inventory
  • MKX9160 Foundations of marketing
  • MKX9610 Supply chain logistics

(b) Module 2 – Students must complete four units (24) points as follows:

(i) two core units (12 points)

  • MKX5611 Advanced supply chain management
  • MKX5751 Delivering customer value

plus two graduate level units (12 points) offered by the Department of Marketing

(c) Module 3 – Students must complete four units (24 points) as follows:

(i) one core unit (12 points):

(ii) four graduate level units (24 points) offered by the Department of Marketing

Relationship Marketing

(b) Module 2 – Students must complete four units (24) points as follows:

(i) four core units (12 points)

(c) Module 3 – Students must complete four units (24 points) from one of the following:

(i) four units (24 points) as follows:

  • MKX5260 International marketing
  • MKX5521 International study program in marketing (Tour)

plus two graduate level unit (6 points) offered by the Department of Marketing, or

(ii) three units (24 points) as follows:

  • MKF5150 Major project (12 credit points)
  • two graduate level unit (12 points) offered by the Department of Marketing

Note that two units (12 points) may be drawn from any Monash postgraduate course*.

Exit awards

Students exiting after completing the specific units in module 1 of any specialisation* are eligible to receive a Graduate Certificate in that specialisation, and students exiting after completing the specific units in modules 1 and 2 of any specialisation are eligible to receive the graduate diploma in that specialisation.

    *In all specialisations, it is recommended that students consult with the course director to ensure their elective units form a coherent study program.
