This double-degree program is a unique, interdisciplinary degree which focuses specifically on the employment and training needs of those seeking to work in the expanding sport and outdoor recreation industries. The course provides attractive sequences of studies for students in a number of disciplinary areas including education, business/management, tourism, environmental science and sports science.
To
receive the awards of Bachelor of Sport and Outdoor Recreation and Bachelor of
Education, a student must successfully complete units totalling 192 points
consisting of:
(a) Studies in sport and outdoor recreation (96 points), including studies in
academic disciplines appropriate for the sport and recreation industry and/or
teaching at the primary level and the adult and vocational education sector.
(b) Studies in education (96 points), a series of units relating to the theory
and practice of education, teaching and curriculum. Fieldwork placements are
also included.
Off-campus fieldwork placement in school settings (mainly in Victoria but also
in wider Australia, North America and the South Pacific) is an integral part of
the course for every student. Other off-campus fieldwork activities provide
students, as individuals or in small groups, with opportunities to collect
data, test theories, and observe phenomena relevant to all areas of education.
