Synopsis: This unit complements concepts presented in Exercise Physiology and Fitness Leadership and core units of the Bachelor of Sport and Outdoor Recreation. The unit increases students' knowledge and understanding of exercise prescription and the consequent risks of sports injuries, their nature and treatment. It expands on students' abilities in analysing sports and exercise safety factors and applying principles of instruction and training specific to the prevention of injuries.
Objectives: As a result of participating in this elective unit students will gain opportunities to develop knowledge of sports injuries, their nature, assessment and management; analyse risk in association with a variety of sporting endeavours; review basic casualty care, injury treatment, therapeutic modalities and rehabilitation techniques; understand principles of injury prevention.
Assessment: Practical: 15% + Case study or essay: 25% + Examination or assignment: 60%
