The terms compulsory commerce, category A and category B represent groupings of subjects from the Clayton campus of the Faculty of Business and Economics (AFC, BTC, ETC, ECC, MGC and MKC prefixes only) and are defined as follows:

Compulsory commerce

Category A

A major specialisation selected from one of the departments of Accounting and Finance, Economics, Econometrics and Business Statistics, or Management.

Category B

One or more minor specialisations selected from one of the departments of the Faculty of Business and Economics. These subjects must not be from the same department as category A subjects.

The terms Group I, Group II and Group III relate to subjects associated with the Department of Business Systems in the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology and are defined as follows:

1. To complete the double degree in four years, an extra commerce subject must be taken in each of the second and third years. These may be taken in first or second semester, depending on timetabling and choice of subjects. Students who do not wish to overload to this extent may complete the program in a fifth year.
