Objectives At the completion of this subject students should be able to understand and critically evaluate the major labour process theories; demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of workplace reform measures; and critically evaluate labour market deregulation and consequences for the labour process.
Synopsis The focus of this subject is the relations between employees and managers at the workplace level. Topics studied include the employment relationship and strategic choice; labour process theories; labour and management at the workplace; best practice and performance management; labour market deregulation in Australia; workplace reform; employee participation in management, employee financial participation; training and skill formation; equal opportunity and managing diversity; and occupational health and safety.
Assessment Written assignment (3000 words): 30% · Tutorial paper and participation: 10% · Examination (2 hours): 60%
