Course description

This course offers an interdisciplinary program which focuses specifically on the employment and training needs of those employed in the expanding sport and outdoor recreation industries. The course offers sequences of units for students in areas such as business/management, tourism, environmental science and sports science.

Course structure

To receive the award of Bachelor of Sport and Outdoor Recreation, a candidate must successfully complete units totalling 144 points.

First year

Sport and outdoor recreation units (48 points):

  • EDF1301 Perspectives on learning
  • EDF1302 Perspectives on teaching
  • EDF1602 Biophysical foundations of human movement A
  • EDF1603 Biophysical foundations of human movement B
  • EDF1604 Outdoor recreation education
  • EDF1605 Lifespan physical activity and wellness
  • EDF1606 Introduction to sport and outdoor studies
  • EDF2232 Australian ecology and nature studies
Second year

Sport and outdoor recreation units (36 points):

  • EDF2601 Adventure education
  • EDF2602 Coaching and instruction
  • EDF2603 Swimming and water safety
  • EDF2604 Leadership and programming
  • EDF2606 Socio-cultural elements of sport and the individual
  • Three approved BSOR electives*

Minor studies (12 points):

  • Two approved 6-point discipline units chosen from those offered across the campus.
Third year

Sport and outdoor recreation units (36 points):

  • EDF3603 Wilderness expedition, or
    EDF3604 Camp planning and practice
  • EDF3605 Risk management and emergency response
  • EDF3609 Experiencing the Australian landscape
  • EDF4205 Initiatives in health education, or
    EDF2125 Fitness leadership

Minor studies (12 points):

  • Two approved 6-point discipline units chosen from those offered across the campus.

    * BSOR electives: EDF3603 (Wilderness expedition), EDF3604 (Camp planning and practices), EDF3607 (Social issues in sport and outdoor recreation), EDF3608 (Sport and movement education), EDF3610 (Research/project in sport and outdoor recreation), EDF3611 (Advanced outdoor recreation practice), EDF4161 (Sports injury prevention), EDF4233 (Outdoor education studies), EDF4237 (Curriculum developments in physical education).
