Course description

The commerce component of this double degree provides a professional education in a range of commerce and business disciplines with a strong emphasis on developing analytical skills. The music component contains both theoretical and practical modules that prepare graduates for a range of roles within the music industry.

Course structure

Majors and other studies

Students must complete a major specialisation in one of the following disciplines taught by the Faculty of Business and Economics: accounting, finance, economics, business law and taxation, econometrics and business statistics, management or marketing. All units taken as part of the major specialisation are limited to units taught by departments of the faculty on the Clayton campus.
Other studies may be drawn from any of the disciplines taught on the Clayton campus by the Faculty of Business and Economics.
Students must also complete the prescribed sequence in music from the Faculty of Arts. For information on the requirements of all music studies offered, refer to the `Areas of study' section on the Arts faculty website at http://www.arts.monash.edu.au/current/coursework/study_areas/.
All units studied must be from the Faculty of Business and Economics (Clayton) and the Faculty of Arts.
It is the student's responsibility to ensure that their enrolment complies with course requirements. Any student who has doubts on this matter should seek a meeting with a course adviser.

Course requirements

The degree requirements are:
(a) Students must complete 18 units (108 credit points) from the Faculty of Business and Economics as follows:
(i) Completion of six compulsory common core units (36 credit points):

(ii) Completion of at least two units (12 credit points) from the following list:

First-year students normally may not take a second-year unit until at least four first-year units have been completed successfully.
(iii) A major specialisation of at least eight units (48 credit points) in a discipline or field of study of the faculty with at least 12 credit points at each of second and third-year level.
(iv) A maximum of eight first-year-level units (48 credit points).
(v) A minimum of four third-year-level units (24 credit points) must be from those offered by the faculty on the campus delivering this program.
(b) Students must complete 16 units (96 credit points) from the School of Music, Faculty of Arts as follows:
(i) A music performance major: MUS1980, MUS1990, MUS2980, MUS2990, MUS3580, MUS3610, MUS3620, MUS3980, MUS3990 (54 credit points).
(ii) Three additional core units: MUS1100, MUS1110, MUS3390 (18 credit points).
(iii) Twelve credit points chosen from: MUS2020, MUS2030, MUS2110, MUS2120, MUS2140, MUS2660.
(iv) Twelve credit points chosen from: MUS3310, MUS3330, MUS3490, MUS3660, MUS3830, MUS3860, MUS3880, MUS3910.
The degree requires the equivalent of four-and-a-quarter years of full-time study, but can be completed in four years by accelerating with an overload of 12 points. The degree must be completed in a maximum of 10 years of study.
