This course, offered by the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, assists health professionals make rational evidence-based decisions in clinical practice and undertake small clinical research projects. The course may be completed over a 12 to 18-month period of three full- time semesters or over a three-year period part-time. Clinical epidemiology attempts to answer clinical questions relevant to the daily practice of medicine and other health sciences, and to improve patient care. It focuses on individuals or groups of patients in clinical settings.
Applicants must have a medical degree, a bachelors degree with honours or graduate diploma, or a three-year bachelors degree with at least two years relevant professional experience in a health-related field. The department will individually assess applications from students without a three-year degree but with extensive relevant professional experience. In such instances, the department may require completion of the Graduate Certificate in Clinical Trials or Graduate Diploma in Clinical Epidemiology before enrolling in the masters program.
This course is comprised of six core units, and two elective options of six units or four units plus a minor research project.
Assessment includes written assignments, examinations, class participation and optional supervised research project.
