Clinical epidemiology (6 points)

Synopsis: Applications of epidemiological techniques to clinical research including clinical diagnostic strategies, clinical agreement measurement & disagreement minimisation strategies, diagnostic test selection, diagnostic data interpretation, sensitivity, specificity, positive & negative predictive value, likelihood ratios, clinical decision analysis, screening, prognosis, optimising therapy, compliance, treatment side effects & critical appraisal of the literature. Clinical research methodology including determining optimal research design, clinical trial design & analysis, bias, practical aspects, ethical considerations, blinding, data analysis, result interpretation & validation.

Contact Hours: 2 contact hours per week

Prerequisites: MPH1040 & MPH1041 or MPH1030 & MPH1031
