Synopsis: Techniques for estimating the effects of intervention & other variables in clinical research. An overview of measures and issues in clinical research; sampling & inference; selecting items, reducing items & creating aggregate scores; inter-rater & intra-rater reliability; reliability & interval consistency of responses; assessing the validity of measures; responsiveness of measures to significant clinical change; strategies for gathering data; wording of questions & design of response categories; data entry & management & handling of missing data.

Assessment: Assignments + Oral presentation

Contact Hours: 2 contact hours per week

Prerequisites: MPH1040 & MPH1041 or MPH1030 & MPH1031
