The Bachelor of Business and Commerce provides an international degree in
business and commerce. The course is designed to provide maximum flexibility
and to allow depth and breadth in the study of the major business and commerce
discipline areas. Its structure provides the capacity to tailor applications
and focus in different contexts and different environments while ensuring
knowledge of the theory, principles and core elements in the relevant
discipline areas.
Students must hold one of the following to be eligible for entry into an undergraduate degree course at Monash South Africa:
Students must provide original
evidence of matriculation endorsement, exemption or other qualifications, and
final grades in subjects undertaken.
Mathematics: while there is no formal mathematics prerequisite, a bonus
is calculated for students who have studied mathematics in the SAFCERT.
English: a pass in an examination equivalent to English at the higher
grade (first or second language) in the South African Senior Certificate; or a
pass in English at A level, O level, International Baccalaureate or equivalent;
or TOEFL 580 and TWE 5; or computer-based TOEFL score of 213 with an Essay
Rating (ER) of 5; IELTS 6.0 with a score of at least 6 for each individual
band.

The
degree program comprises 24 six-point subjects (144 points) that are normally
completed by full-time students at a rate of four units each semester, with two
semesters per year, over a period of three years. The degree requirements
are:
(a) A core of six compulsory first-year units comprising one unit from each of
the faculty's six discipline groupings (accounting, business law, business
mathematics and statistics, economics, management and marketing). The six
individual core units are:
(b) Up to 10 units (60
points) may be taken at first-year level.
(c) At least six units (36 points) must be third-year level units -- at least
four of these (24 points) must be taken from units offered by the faculty.
(d) up to six units are free electives (units from another faculty must be
approved by that faculty).
(e) at least one major specialisation must be chosen consisting of eight units
(48 points) from the accounting, management, or marketing, including at least
two units (12 points) at each of the second and third-year levels.
(f) at least four of the non-compulsory units must be outside the main field of
study.
