6 points + Two 1-hour lectures and one 1-hour tutorial per week + Berwick, Peninsula, Malaysia, first and second semester + Gippsland, South Africa, first semester + OCDL, first semester, approximately 12 hours per week + Prohibitions: MGB1302, MGG1302, MGW1302, MGX1010, MGX1300

Synopsis: On completion of this unit students should have an understanding of: the nature of managerial work in organisations; theories of management and their historical development; the management of people as individuals and groups; the importance of leadership and motivation; the principles by which change is introduced into organisations; the key factors in the organisation's environment that impact on how managers and organisations work.

Assessment: On-campus: Two written assignments: 40% + Tutorial participation: 10% + Examination (2 hours): 50% + Off-campus: Two written assignments: 50% + Examination (2 hours): 50%
