Accounting for management information

6 points + 1-hour lecture and 2-hour tutorial + OCDL, approximately 12 hours per week + First and second semester + Malaysia, first and second semester + Berwick, Gippsland, Peninsula and South Africa, first semester + Prerequisites: AFW1001 and AFW1002

Synopsis: Introduction to management accounting and business management. Basic terms and concepts. Classification and behaviour of costs. Recording product cost transactions for manufacturing firms using periodic and continuous systems. Joint and by-product spoilage and waste. Apportioning joint costs for multiple products. Activity-based costing. Materials and inventory management using traditional and JIT methods. Quality costing and quality issues as organisational strategies.

Assessment: Assignment: 30% + Examination: 70%
