This course is designed to provide students with skills in the core business disciplines together with specialist skills through the major and to develop an awareness of the international environment in which modern business operates.

Entry requirements

(a) Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)

Satisfactory completion of the VCE with a study score of at least 25 in units 3 and 4 English (any), plus any two units from General Mathematics and/ or Mathematical Methods at units 1 and 2 level.

(b) Comparable qualifications

Applicants may also satisfy entry requirements on the basis of qualifications deemed to be the equivalent of the above VCE. TAFE qualifications (eg the first year of a TAFE advanced diploma or a TAFE qualification that satisfies the first year of a TAFE advanced diploma) or comparable Year 12 qualifications, including International Baccalaureate or approved tertiary-level study completed in Victoria, other states of Australia or overseas, may satisfy entry requirements.

(c) Special admission

Students who have not successfully completed VCE or equivalent may satisfy entry requirements by completing at least two Monash non-award single units or open learning (OLA) units. Advanced standing (credit for work done elsewhere)

Credit transfer may be considered for previous tertiary-level study or post-secondary study (including TAFE) in Australia and overseas. Each application is assessed on a case-by-case basis. It is essential that units submitted for credit transfer fit the philosophy and principles of this degree course of study. Units studied more than 10 years ago are regarded as beyond a reasonable time limit and will not be considered for credit/ exemption.

Mode of offering

Day classes are offered at Peninsula campus. Some elective units may be offered from other campuses through tele-teaching, and some units may be offered through off-campus distributed learning.

Duration

Full-time students would normally complete the course in 4.25 years, however it can be completed in four years or less by taking five units in two or more semesters or by taking units during the summer semester.

Course structure

The double degree follows the structural requirements of the two single degrees as follows:

Bachelor of Business and Commerce

• Six compulsory core units (36 points)
• An eight-unit major (48 points), of which two units must be from each of the second and third-year levels
• Four units (24 points) are free electives.

The following additional regulations must be observed:

• Up to 10 units may be taken at first-year level
• At least six units (36 points) must be at third-year level (24 of which must be taken from units offered by the Faculty of Business and Economics on the Peninsula campus)
• In total, 18 units (108 points) must be taken on the Peninsula campus.

Bachelor of Arts

This component of the course comprises 96 points made up of the following:

• One 48 point arts discipline major
• One 24-point arts discipline minor
• A third first-year sequence of 12 points
• A further 12 points at either second or third-year level.
