Bachelor of Arts (Asian Studies)
Course code: 0563. · Coordinator: Dr Barbara Hatley
The BA (Asian Studies) is designed for students wishing to augment the
objectives of the general BA with specialised knowledge of Asia.
This
specialised degree provides students who are interested in Asian studies with a
structured course of study that offers particular combinations of subjects
which focus on Asia. Students are required to complete two majors - one in an
Asian language and the other in a discipline with some Asian content. The
language major can be chosen from the following languages: Chinese, Indonesian,
Japanese and Korean. The discipline major should include at least two subjects
with an Asian focus or content, to a minimum of 14 points, which must be
relevant to the Asian language being studied.
It is highly recommended that students undertake the subjects ASN1010
(Introduction to Asian civilisations 1) and ASN1020 (Asian civilisations: an
historical introduction 2). These can then be followed in second year with
subjects that have an Asian focus.
The discipline major with Asian content can be chosen from sequences available
