The BA (Asian Studies) is designed for students wishing to augment the objectives of the general BA with specialised knowledge of Asia.

Course structure

This specialised degree provides students who are interested in Asian studies with a structured course of study that offers particular combinations of subjects which focus on Asia. Students are required to complete two majors - one in an Asian language and the other in a discipline with some Asian content. The language major can be chosen from the following languages: Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese and Korean. The discipline major should include at least two subjects with an Asian focus or content, to a minimum of 14 points, which must be relevant to the Asian language being studied.
It is highly recommended that students undertake the subjects ASN1010 (Introduction to Asian civilisations 1) and ASN1020 (Asian civilisations: an historical introduction 2). These can then be followed in second year with subjects that have an Asian focus.
