The
Master of Information Management and Systems (MIMS) is offered by the School of
Information Management and Systems. The aim of the MIMS is to prepare students
for careers in the management of information and the development of information
systems. Graduates of the Master of Information Management and Systems are
expected to play leading roles in the profession in Australia and other
countries.
The Master of Information Management and Systems incorporates the Graduate
Diploma in Information Management and Systems and the Graduate Certificate in
Information Management and Systems.
Applicants
for admission must normally have qualified for a bachelors degree at a
satisfactory level at Monash University or at another tertiary institution
approved by the faculty. Special entry provisions enable admission to
candidates without formal tertiary qualifications who can establish that they
have the foundation required for postgraduate studies.
Applicants for admission who have completed a qualification which is the
equivalent of the twenty-four points of foundation subjects, or who hold a
graduate diploma or honours degree with a recognised specialisation in
information management and/or systems, will be able to enter the course with
advanced standing of twenty-four points.
In special circumstances, applicants for admission who have qualified for a
bachelors degree at a satisfactory level at Monash University or at another
tertiary institution approved by the faculty, and who have extensive
professional experience in practice, may be able to enter the course with
advanced standing of up to forty-eight points.
The course fee is $12000 or $1000 per six-point subject.
To
qualify with the award of Master of Information Management and Systems students
should complete seventy-two points of graduate subjects. The subjects will be
selected from the graduate subjects of the School of Information Management and
Systems, however, up to twelve points may be taken from outside the School of
Information Management and Systems, subject to approval by the head of
school.
Students who successfully complete twenty-four points of subjects may exit the
course with a Graduate Certificate in Information Management and Systems.
Students who successfully complete forty-eight points of subjects may exit the
course with a Graduate Diploma in Information Management and Systems.

There are several specialisations available within the Master of Information Management and Systems. These are information systems development, information technology management, decision support systems, recordkeeping, library and information services and electronic publishing. The specialisations have been designed to meet the professional accreditation standards of
