Course coordinator: Mr Peter Schuwalow
This course is principally designed for students seeking a career in
international business. The course is available in two sequences. Both
sequences comprise a core of foundation business subjects (common to all
Bachelor of Business degrees at Monash University), specialist studies in areas
of relevance to international trade and three electives. The foreign business
language sequence includes a minimum of one year of study in an approved
foreign language related to international trade, such as Chinese, Japanese,
German or Indonesian. The international business sequence includes an extended
range of specialist international trade subjects. The BBus(IntTrade) offered at
the Peninsual campus is a three-year full-time course or two-year accelerated
course with subjects available during summer semester.
The course is designed to produce graduates equipped to operate effectively in the international business arena and to:
In addition to part one, section four of the degree regulations, the following credit transfers have been standardised for the Bachelor of Business (International Trade):
Day classes are offered at the Peninsula campus for both the foreign business language sequence and the international business sequence.
Available
only at the Peninsula campus, two language subjects must be taken as a sequence
of study in an approved foreign language. Business Chinese (Mandarin) or
business Japanese, Indonesian or German are recommended. However, students may
choose another language relevant to international trade, with the approval of
the course coordinator. Up to three further language subjects may be taken as
electives. Students who enrol in the double degree Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of
Business (International Trade) take seven subjects of languages as their Arts
major (see Arts handbook or course brochure). The program assumes no prior
knowledge of the language.
The languages focus on contemporary and business vocabulary and the languages
will therefore complement the business subjects and enhance career prospects.
*EACH OF THE TWO LANGUAGE UNITS MUST BE IN THE SAME LANGUAGE CHOSEN FROM EITHER BUSINESS CHINESE (REFER CBL1110 BEGINNING BUSINESS CHINESE, PART 1, CBL1120 BEGINNING BUSINESS CHINESE, PART 2) OR BUSINESS JAPANESE (REFER JBL1010 BUSINESS JAPANESE 1A, JBL1020 BUSINESS JAPANESE 2A) OR ANOTHER FOREIGN LANGUAGE APPROVED BY THE COURSE COORDINATOR.
