Description

The study of primary education involves:

  • understanding child development, educational theories and practice and how to involve children from age five to twelve years in engaging, innovative and purposeful learning
  • teaching and learning strategies, and education policy, theories and practice
  • developing knowledge about teaching the primary school curriculum
  • unique opportunities to become specialist teachers in a variety of areas such as English and literacy, mathematics and numeracy, languages other than English (LOTE) and health and physical education
  • applying in-depth academic study through supervised professional experiences in schools
  • becoming qualified to teach in primary schools.

Requirements

All students

All students undertaking the Bachelor of Education (Primary) or any of the associated double degrees listed under 'Related courses' complete the following units in the education major, curriculum major and professional experience sections.
