Bachelor of Business (Banking and Finance)/ Bachelor of Computing


General information

This course aims to produce graduates who are able to evaluate and implement new computer-based information technology in the banking and finance industry.

This course is offered either on a full-time basis of at least four years duration or on a part-time basis of at least eight years duration.
Candidates completing this program qualify for the degrees of Bachelor of Business (Banking and Finance) and Bachelor of Computing.

Entry requirements

(a) Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)

A study score of at least 25 in English (any) and in mathematics (any) at units 3 and 4 level.

(b) Comparable qualifications

Applicants may also satisfy entry requirements with qualifications equivalent to VCE, eg TAFE qualifications (the first year of a TAFE diploma or equivalent TAFE qualification) or comparable Year 12 qualifications, including the International Baccalaureate, or other approved tertiary study.

(c) Special admission

Students who have not successfully completed VCE or equivalent may satisfy entry requirements by completing at least two Monash non-award single unit or open learning (OLA) units. Advanced standing (credit for work done elsewhere)

The following credit transfers have been standardised for the Bachelor of Business (Banking and Finance)/Bachelor of Computing. In all cases, at least 96 points (comprising 48 points for business units and 48 points for computing units) must be completed at Monash University before a candidate is eligible for the award.

Computing

The Faculty of Information Technology has established articulation arrangements with several TAFE courses into the Bachelor of Computing.

The faculty also has in place several arrangements for advanced standing for applicants with completed international higher diplomas in computer studies from polytechnics and universities in Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia.

Professional accreditation

This degree satisfies the educational requirements for senior associate membership of the Australasian Institute of Banking and Finance. Holders of the degree who have not completed the two years employment in the banking and finance industry required for senior associate membership are eligible for associate membership in the interim. Graduates will also meet the requirements for professional level membership with the Australian Computer Society.

Mode of offering

Day and evening classes are offered at the Caulfield campus. Not all units are offered in all semesters.

Duration

The course will normally be completed in four years on a full-time basis and eight years on a part-time basis, with the usual load for part-time students being two or three units per semester. Evening classes are held between the hours of 6 pm and 10 pm, with students attending two or three evenings per week.

Completion of the BBus(Banking and Finance)/BComp will enable progression to an honours year and a variety of postgraduate courses either at Monash or other Australian or overseas universities.
