Synopsis: Introduction to elements of computer graphics. History, hardware components, commercial use of GUIs. Concept of pixels, text and graphics modes in PC environments. GUI principles and components. Windows and VISUAL BASIC concepts. Introduction to Windows programming. Windows, APIs, DLL libraries, run-time dynamic linking, OLE technology, using databases in a GUI environment. Introduction to multimedia applications development. GUI styles and implementations. Desktop GUI hardware and projections for future GUI applications.

Assessment: Examination (2 hours): 50% + Practical work: 50%

Prerequisites: Two semesters of programming in any language(s), plus at least 18 points of second or third year units in any discipline.
