Synopsis: The nature of managerial work in organisations; theories of management and their historical development; the management of people as individuals and in groups; the importance of leadership and motivation; the principles by which change is introduced into organisations; and the key factors in the organisation's environment that impact on how managers and organisations work.

Assessment: on-campus: Participation in tutorials: 10% + Assignment 1 (1500 words): 15% + Assignment 2 (2500 words): 25% + Examination: (2 hours) 50%. Distance: Two written assignments: 50% + Examination (2 hours): 50%

Contact Hours: 2-hour lecture and 1-hour tutorial per week
