The Bachelor of Business (Retail Management) is a three-year course available
by flexible learning.
The overall aim of the course is to raise the level of management skill and
competence in all aspects of retail management.
The content, structure and presentation of the course are designed to equip
students with the skills to manage a retail business in an increasingly complex
and challenging environment.
The degree is offered at the Caulfield campus.
A study score of at least 25 in English and in mathematics (any) at units 3 and 4 level, and a study score of at least 20 in any two other VCE studies.
Applicants may also satisfy entrance requirements on the basis of qualifications deemed to be the equivalent of the above VCE, eg TAFE qualifications (the first year of a TAFE associate diploma or a TAFE qualification that satisfies the first year of a TAFE associate diploma) or comparable Year 12 qualifications, including International Baccalaureate, or approved tertiary-level study completed in Victoria, other states of Australia, or overseas.
Students who have not successfully completed VCE or equivalent may satisfy entry requirements by completing at least two Monash non-award single subjects or open learning (OLA) subjects. This course is open to mature-age applicants (23 years plus) who have passed the VCE or equivalent, including English, and have relevant retail work experience. Applicants who have undertaken studies at tertiary level may apply for credit in equivalent subjects in the course. When applying, prospective candidates must provide full documentary evidence of prior tertiary studies, including a copy of academic records and subject synopses from the handbooks of the years in which the subjects were passed, to enable credits to be processed by the faculty's credit transfer committee.
The Bachelor of Business (Retail Management) is recognised by the Australian Retailers' Association.
The
course is coordinated from the Caulfield campus of Monash University. The
course is delivered in a flexible learning mode, enabling students to enrol in
a mix of on-campus and off-campus subjects, either full-time or part-time. The
course may be taken entirely off-campus with all course materials and course
administration completed by mail.
Opportunities for communication between students and subject coordinators are
organised on a subject basis and candidates are given advance notice of such
arrangements. Local study groups are encouraged.
For students enrolled in off-campus subjects, materials are mailed each
semester and include introductory information about each subject, all
assignment requirements (content, due dates, marks allocation) and examination
information.
Depending on where candidates live, they can nominate the most convenient
examination centre. Arrangements will be made for candidates to sit their
examinations in their own state and as close as possible to their residence.
