Synopsis: This subject aims to provide students with a basic knowledge of accounting and an understanding of the role of accounting information in financial decision making. The subjec covers: the accounting cycle; accounting for service firms, merchandisers and manufacturers; computerisation; accounting for companies; financial statement analysis; product costing; cost-volume-profit analysis and time value of money. On the completion of this subject, students should be able to understand the information requirements for financial decision making by internal and external interest groups.

Assessment: Tutorial participation: 10% + Semester-based assignment: 15% + Examination (3 hours): 75%
