The Centre for Graduate Studies in Clinical Nursing (MMC Clayton) offers a
Graduate Diploma of Nursing (Anaesthesia/Post Anaesthesia) in partnership with
the Southern Health Care Network. This course responds to the need within
industry for nurses who are able to provide care for patients and anaesthetic
assistance before, during and after anaesthesia. An extensive and diverse range
of clinical experience is offered, incorporating patients of varying ages and
levels of acuity.
This
course aims to prepare specialist clinical nurses to provide comprehensive care
to patients undergoing anaesthetic intervention, across the spectrum of
surgical environments.
On
completion of the course it is expected that graduates will:
- possess specialist practice skills enabling them to plan, implement and
evaluate nursing care of the patient throughout their anaesthetic intervention;
- develop collaborative working relationships with members of anaesthetic
and surgical teams;
- act as patient advocate during a time of increased patient vulnerability;
- utilise research to improve anaesthetic/post anaesthetic nursing
practice and patient outcomes;
- act as managers and professional role models/mentors for less qualified
staff;
- critically reflect on their own practice in order to maintain high
standards of care and identify ongoing professional development needs;
- evaluate a range of professional and health care issues in order to
formulate appropriate strategies which promote the development of anaesthetic
nursing practice.
Successful
applicants will normally have:
- a degree;
- a current RN practising certificate: and
- at least one year professional clinical experience.
Special entry
to the course is available.
